How Does Lasik Eye Surgery Work? | Parkhurst NuVision

Category: LASIK

What happens during a LASIK Evaluation?

During your evaluation for the multiple LASIK procedures offered at our San Antonio Office, you will personally meet with our refractive surgery doctors and internationally renowned eye care team. We’ll conduct several diagnostic tests that measure your corneal curvature, unique prescription, and determine if your eyes are healthy enough to proceed with refractive surgery. Our diagnostic measurements are performed to help create a customized treatment plan for all our patients, so that they can enjoy the life changing procedure in all its glory. Once we have your treatment plan customized to you, your personal surgical coordinator will walk you through the pre and post op schedule.

Who is a LASIK Candidate?

LASIK has been considered one of the most common refractive surgeries offered. If you’ve ever thought about getting rid of your glasses, chances are Laser vision is how you‘ve thought to accomplish it. The team at Parkhurst NuVision delivers results that are typically completely painless with a sense of freedom when you can wake up and see! With technology continuously improving, patients that were told years ago that they weren’t candidates are able to revisit the subject and learn that they may qualify now. Many factors are involved in selecting an appropriate candidate for the LASIK procedure. Our team looks at a multitude of diagnostic measurements and scans to find a procedure that will best benefit you in the long term. When reviewing your unique scans with our team of doctors, we make sure to look at corneal thickness, prescription, what your visual outcome goals are (do you want to be able to thread a needle? Do you want to improve your golf game? Are you an avid video gamer?). LASIK eye surgery is one of the most effective procedures for adults over 18. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should wait to have to have LASIK because of fluctuating hormone levels and changing pre-refraction prescriptions.

Custom Vision With LASIK Eye Surgery

It can be performed to enhance your visual clarity – it allows your Lasik surgeons to tailor the laser treatment according to your specific eye. LASIK eye surgery uses light-based laser technology to create uniform corneal tissue. Wavefront technology assembles an image map that transfers to the laser and allows your LASIK surgeon to meet your specific vision needs. For custom Lasik surgery in San Antonio, Wavefront technologies are applied, such as customized eye surgery.

Is LASIK surgery painful?

Often patients feel no discomfort after LASIK surgery. We also provide a mild sedative to relieve your anxiety while in the Lasik suite. This helps many patients want to take a good nap! During Laser eye surgery, an anesthetic drop can be placed on an eyelid to relieve pain so there is no eye pressure at the time.

How Quickly Can I Resume Normal Activities After LASIK?

Within one week following LASIK surgery, minimal limits exist. Patients can typically return to his or her usual activities for the next 24-hour period. LASIK surgery can provide an effective solution to years-long struggles of contacts and glasses.
