Preparing for LASIK
A consultation appointment is the first step towards clearer vision. One of our experts will answer any questions you have, assess your candidacy, and give you details on next steps. Be sure to talk to one of our doctors about not only the benefits of LASIK, but also any risks of LASIK that may pertain to your individual needs and circumstances.
What Happens During LASIK?
LASIK is an outpatient procedure that does not require general anesthesia and takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Using advanced technology, your surgeon will correct the shape of your cornea to improve your vision.
Recovery After LASIK
Most patients can return to normal activities within a day or two after LASIK. You may experience some mild discomfort for a day or two, but this is temporary and easily managed. You will be advised to avoid rubbing your eyes, swimming, or engaging in other activities that may irritate the eyes for several weeks after the procedure.
Frequently Asked Questions About LASIK
Good candidates for LASIK are individuals who are over 18 years of age and have stable vision for at least one year. Candidates should also have healthy eyes, not be pregnant or nursing, and have no history of certain eye conditions, such as glaucoma or severe dry eye.2
Take our LASIK self-test to get an idea of which vision correction procedure may be right for you.
LASIK is not generally painful. Numbing eye drops are used to minimize any pain or discomfort. After the procedure, patients may experience some mild discomfort or a feeling of pressure, but this usually goes away within a day or two.
No, LASIK is typically not covered by insurance because it is considered an elective procedure. Some insurers do offer particle coverage or benefits that can help defray the overall cost of LASIK. The experts at Parkhurst NuVision can help you navigate your insurance plan to take advantage of any potential benefits.
Actually, our patients are always surprised by how quick and easy LASIK is from beginning to end! There is a common misconception that it’s difficult to fit LASIK into your life, when the truth is that LASIK is far less logistically challenging than most people think. For some of our patients, the entire LASIK process (from initial phone call through recovery) takes only a few days.
The effects of LASIK are generally permanent, but some patients may experience changes in their vision over time due to age-related vision changes. In some cases, a touch-up procedure may be needed to maintain optimal vision. Regular eye exams are important for monitoring vision and detecting any changes.
